A range of Mahaseer species like Golden Mahaseer, Silver Mahaseer, Black Mahaseer and Goonch are significantly found in the river flowing in and around Jim Corbett National Park. For the fishing activity at the Ramganga and the Kosi River in the vicinity of Backpackshack Zostel & Hot Hostel- Corbett , you have to take the permission from the forest officials of the respective forests divisions because the fishing points are within the range of the Corbett reserve forest. However, the Mahaseer fishing is no more permitted inside boundaries the Jim Corbett National Park but you are allowed to have a close sight of these beautiful fishes in the clear deep waters of the Ramganga and Kosi River in Uttarakhand. Currently Angling & Fishing are permitted near Backpackshack Zostel & Hot Hostel in Bhikiasen, approximately 100 KMs away from Jim Corbett National Park Ramnagar Office.

SAMPLE ITINERARY FOR MAHSEER ANGLING IN RAMGANGA RIVER NEAR CORBETT NATIONAL PARK

DAY1 : Corbett
On arrival, check-in at the Corbett Vanya Angling Lodge. Have lunch and take rest. Enjoy the evening nature walk along the kosi River. Come back and have dinner. Stay overnight at Lodge.
DAY2 :  Corbett Vanya Angling Lodge
Leave early morning for Tiger Safari to Corbett National Park on open Gypsy with a guide. Back to Fishing Lodge in Corbett, have Breakfast. Post Breakfast Leave for Vanya Mahseer Angling Camp-Bhikiasen (Home Stay at Sinora, during winter & monsoon) for Angling Trip.
DAY3 : BHIKIYASEN- Vanya Mahseer Angling Camp
Leave after an early breakfast, for a full day fishing & Angling in Ramganga River, with packed meal / sandwiches & some beverage. In the evening, come back to have dinner. Stay overnight at the Camp/ Home Stay.
DAY4 : BHIKIYASEN- Vanya Mahseer Angling Camp
Leave after an early breakfast, for a full day fishing at Ramganga River to another Angling Point, with packed meal/ sandwiches & some beverage . In the evening, come back to have dinner. Stay overnight at the Vanya Angling Camp/ Home Stay.
DAY5 : RANIKHET
Checkout from the Vanya Mahseer Angling Camp after breakfast. Enjoy your drive from Bhikiyasen to Ranikhet to see the see capped Mountains at Sitla Cottage at Sitakhet, check-in to the camp on arrival. Enjoy the scenic Beauty of the Himalayan Ranges & Birding around Camp site.
DAY6 :  Corbett/ Onward Destination
Bid Good Bye to the Camp Staff and leave for onward Destination or Corbett - If you wish to extend your stay.

Corbett in NEWS for different Reasons: The Uttarakhand High Court has been prohibited the commercial use of elephants in Corbett National Park, citing the violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Apart from banning the elephant joy ride, the court has also reduced the number of safari jeep going into the reserve forest. As per the ruling, a maximum of the 100 commercial jeeps should be allowed to enter in the Corbett park zones like Sitabani, Bijrani and Dhela zones in a day. Also, the same number of safari jeeps will be allowed in the other parks like Kalagarh and Rajaji National Park in a day. At present around 200 safari jeeps are allowed to enter in the Corbett Park in a day. A maximum of 6 adults and 2 children are allowed in a jeep. The HC has also said that only those private vehicles that have the RTO-issued permits should be allowed in the National Parks of Uttarakhand. The HC gave the ruling after hearing a PIL filed in the year 2012.
