Ranikhet is a hill station and cantonment town in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. At an altitude of 1829 meters above sea level.
Ranikhet gets its name, which mean Queen's meadow in English, from a legend that an Indian queen visited the site and built herself a palace here, though no palace currently exists in the area. In 1869, the British established the cantonment here and used the station as a retreat from the heat of the Indian summer. Ranikhet is the home to the Kumaon regiment.

One can enjoy the Himalayan view virtually from any place in Ranikhet, and the view is particularly spectacular from October till June. Ranikhet gets snowfall in the winter season, mainly in the months of December, January and February. It offers a vast diversity of flora and fauna with vast forests of Pine and Deodar.
The languages spoken in the town are Hindi & English apart from the local language Kumaoni. The nearest Airport is in Pant Nagar, Nainital. Most Convenient Airport is Delhi.

BY RAIL - By Ranikhet Express from Delhi to Ramnagar/ Kathgodam (nearest Railhead from Ranikhet). One can reach Ranikhet via road from Ramnagar/ Kathgodam. Connectivity also available from Lucknow Calcutta, other places to Kathgodam.
BY ROAD - Ranikhet is well connected  by road. Personal Vehicles & Taxies are preferred mode of reaching Ranikhet.

Kumaon Regimental Center ( KRC)-Ranikhet : The town is home of the Kumaon Regiment. KRC is  lifeblood of the town. The KRC Museum and Memorial is a must visit place

Upat Kalika ; Upat Kalika has one of the best Golf Course (9 holes) in the country and offers a nice jungle walk in the woods as well.

Jhula Devi -Ranikhet : Jhula Devi Temple is famous for the bells. It is said that wishes are granted if one ties a bell in the temple.

Hedakhan Ashram, Chillianaula : This is the famous temple of Baba Hairakhan. The temple is known for its peaceful surroundings.

Binsar Mahadev :  Its is an old temple of Lord Shiva. The ambience of the temple is such that one feels in unison with the power ruling the whole universe…the lord himself.

Chaubattia : The major attraction is Govt Apple Garden and the Fruit Research Center. Its at a height of 7000 feet offering the magnificent view of the Himalayas.

Shawl & Tweed Factory-Ranikhet : KRC maintains the factory. It is located inside an old church. Old traditional weaving of cloth on handloom is still alive here. The Australian Merino wool is knit into shawls with beautiful ethnic patterns. The shawls and tweeds woven here are worth buying.

Ram Mandir Tarikhet : It is a developing township, on the way to Ram Nagar. Mahatma Gandhi sojourned at Tarikhet for sometime. A hut commemorates his visit to the spot..

Dwarahaat : Dwarahat has a cluster of age-old temples divided into eight distinct groups. It is a must visit for everyone..

Almora- Binsar : Once the summer capital of the Chand Rajas in 7th and 8th centuries is one of the most scenic spots in the Kumaon region. The place is ideal for trekking and communing with nature.

Dunagiri : Daunagiri is a place of religious importance. It is famous for  its temple of Goddess Durga, which has an inspiration dating back to 1189 AD..

Jim Corbett National Park: Dedicated to the cause of wildlife conservation and named after Jim Corbett, slayer of "The Man-eaters of Kumaon", Corbett is the oldest reserve in South East..

Kausani : Kausani is a picturesque hill station famous for its scenic splendor and its spectacular 300 km wide view of the Himalayas..

Nainital : Nainital is situated around a blue lake shaped like an eye. Mall road along the Lake Ropeways has beautiful bazaar and is known to be a shopper’s paradise...

Choukori : Chakauri offers a splendid view of Himalayan ranges. It is 133 kms from the cottage. .

Jageswar : Jageshwar is the only temple of Maha Mrityunjaya in India. It is 65 kms from the camp.


SITLA COTTAGE - Sitla Cottage offers a wide-open panorama of the snow peaks - both  Nepalese and Indian Himalayas. Beautiful views of Almora town can be seen towards the east. The highest point in Ranikhet, the syahi devi temple (2345 m), is just 5 Kms further from the cottage.
Cottage is set-up at Devlikhan village deep in the pine forest in the Kumaon hills  and designed on Eco-Development Village Stay Principles, used primarily by foreign students coming to India on cultural study program.

Cottage is run in a village home with 06 Room, out of which 03 Himalaya facing rooms on upper level are used for guest accommodation and dining purpose, while 03 rooms on lower level are used for staff, Kitchen and Store. Here you can experience typical Himalayan village life with all its interesting facets.
Apart from being a very picturesque location, cottage can be used for adventure and wildlife based activities- mountain bicycling, trekking and bird watching.
Cottage, you can feel the forest beneath your feet and towering over your head. You can brave it on a mountain bicycle or wander anywhere into the wilderness. Climb a hill, explore the caves, run into flocks of birds.. The major crop is the potato. The majestic cliffs around Cottage offer a challenge to those willing to explore their potential.

Accommodation in 02 Room facing Himalaya and breath taking view of Almora in the night. Out of which 01 Room with 02 Bed, while other with 04 bedded  with proper bedding ensure a comfortable stay.

Residential tents : Accommodation in American Dome Tents along-with camp mattresses and sleeping bags ensure a comfortable stay in the mountain.
Dining area :
The Middle Room ( between 02 Bed-Room) is used as Dining Room apart from the Verandah facing Himalaya  with a wooden table and Chairs makes an appetizing place to enjoy meals.  
Toilet :
02 functional  toilet one with Indian style toilet seat and other with W/C toilets, running water and toilet paper.
Bathroom :
Bathroom with buckets is available for the  guests. We request all the guest to conserve and save water because water is scares, particularly during summer.
Kitchen facilities :
A kitchen at lower level (Ground Floor) serves Indian cuisine along with local delicacies- made to order.
Cottage Staff: 
As Cottage is operated  on Eco-Development Village Stay Principles employ local youth and women - Your Host at Cottage, under able Supervision of Mr Rana.
